R Studio — A new R IDE (or called editor ?)

By the email from xiao Gen, I got to know this nice IDE for R, R-Studio. IDE is short for Integrated development environment, which in my eyes is another cool way to say Editor.

I just download it and begin to try this new tool. It works well and looks nice so far. So I will join xiao Gen, recommending it.

保护肾脏的方法

1. 吃一点盐对肾脏有好处，但是别吃太多，吃多了会让血压升高，给肾脏造成压力。

2. 避免摄入咖啡，巧克力，糖果和含兴奋剂的食物。咖啡因，兴奋剂，对肾脏有相当大的损害。糖吃多了，血压也会升高（所以有人说，血糖高的人得注意下自己的肾脏了）。

3. 避免吃冷的食，或是喝冷饮。寒气太重对肾脏不利。

4. 避免喝经过杀菌的果汁。（这个为什么我还不知道,我猜高温杀菌后营养都没有了）

5. 喝点自己做的骨头汤对肾脏有加强作用。骨头汤补气。

6. 每天和6-8杯水。帮助肾脏排出废物，减轻肾脏的压力。

7. 冬天的时候，稍稍多吃点盐分和油。（这个我也不知道，可能是冬天消耗比较大吧）

8. 吃点海产品，海菜，野生的鱼，海盐，海藻。

9. 一定得多多休息，睡得饱饱的。

10. 千万也熬夜啊。

11. 每天保持蛋白质，碳水化合物的平衡摄取。就是吃的适量且营养搭配均衡。

12. 严防感冒，肾脏疾病有很大一部分是由于感染引起的，感冒的时候很容易发生机体感染，所以一定预防感冒。

13. 千万控制好自己的情绪，不要大喜大悲。肾脏的最大杀手就是坏脾气，爱着急的性格。什么事情慢慢来，没有过不去的砍，没有解决不了的问题。不是说嘛，喜乐才是良药。

有助保护肾脏的食物和烹调方法：

粮谷类：荞麦，黑米，大麦。
豆类：红小豆，黑大豆。
蔬菜类：甜菜，红色卷心菜，牛蒡(burdock) （据说这个有净化血液的功效），荸荠，香芹。
水果类：黑莓，草莓，蓝莓，葡萄，小红莓，西瓜。
海蔬菜：红皮藻，海带，海带，紫菜，裙带菜。
微型藻类：螺旋藻，小球藻，螺旋藻。
种子：黑芝麻，野生稻。
坚果：核桃，栗子。
海鲜：鱼子酱，鲍鱼，青鱼，鲶鱼，蛤，蟹，鱿鱼，龙虾，贻贝，章鱼，牡蛎，沙丁鱼，扇贝，鱿鱼，甲鱼。（海产品含有大量矿物质，有助于提高抵抗力，降低血压，帮助排毒等功效）
调味料：芝麻盐，酱，海盐，梅干，梅子，梅干醋。
烹调方法：蒸，轻煮。

Tutorial for Propensity Score

These days I am learning Propensity Score, a method popularly used in observational study which intends to reduce the estimation bias by uncontrolled experiments. I find the paper
"PROPENSITY SCORE METHODS FOR BIAS REDUCTION IN THE COMPARISON OF A TREATMENT TO A NON-RANDOMIZED CONTROL GROUP"
very useful as a tutorial for Propensity Score. Basically, it describes the motivation of bringing Propensity Score in observational studies and discusses some common methods using Propensity Score, like matching, stratification, and regression adjustment. It also provides real examples for each part.

This study lets me recall the days doing consulting following John. I really want to take that course again and ask him many questions… why I ask so few questions at that time?

美国著名大学的研究生院占据了世界高校专业排名前列的半壁江山，为中国学生提供了广阔的留学渠道，然而选择不同专业的学生的发展前景也大相径庭。什
么是适合自己的专业？笔者认为，其一，要与自己的兴趣与专长相结合。其二，选择的专业要一定程度符合就业市场需要。从前有些家长与学生有个误区，认为学一
个“好出国”的专业，到了美国自然一切都会顺理成章得好起来，这是严重错误的。事实证明在中国难就业的专业，在美国同样难以就业；在美国容易大展宏图的行
业，在中国一样容易大有作为。

以下是针对大量留美学生的观察与统计得出的对各个专业的看法，可以看出，容易在美国就业的也多数都容易在国内就业：

1、
物理学属于好出国的专业，各大美国研究生院物理人才短缺，因此也比较容易获得奖学金。但是物理专业学生出路堪忧。学习理论物理的优秀学生，如果数理基础很
好，在经济形势好的情况下选修些金融课程，毕业后可以去金融机构做数量分析，年薪可达15万至30万美元。如果想钻研学术的话，物理学教授一般都需要1至
2轮博士后经历，还要有学术界的人脉，过硬的研究文章。物理学一些领域的学生还可去GE等公司的基础研究部门，年薪7万以上。

2、
化学也是好出国的行业。就业前景在美国相当不错。其中，有机化学最容易进大的制药公司，如辉瑞，礼来等，博士毕业起薪可达8万至9万美元，硕士起薪约5万
至7
万美元。但是有机化学比较对身体有害，同时为了去好的制药公司，读书期间要注意积累很多技能，如写作、语言、参加行业学术研讨会、认识行业内人士等。分析
化学同样可以去制药公司，分析仪器公司等。无机化学与物理化学就业稍微窄些，但是化学整体上不错，因为化学化工产业比较成规模，有很多大公司需要化学人
才，如杜邦，陶氏化学，GE，英国石油，壳牌，爱克森美孚等。

3、数学比较好出国, 而且就业前景很好, 将来可去金融, 保险, 银行, 地产, 信用卡, 制药等行业, 博士年薪在8万至15万美元以上。优秀的数学博士很多可以不用做博士后就直接做助理教授, 一切在美国都是供求关系决定的。

4、统计就业前景好，可以去制药、咨询、金融等行业，硕士年薪在6万至8万美元以上。

5、
生物科学出国容易，但是就业机会水深火热。首先是研究手段原始，体力成分多，其次是功课非常繁重，每周几乎要工作70个小时才能出成果。生物硕士很难找工
作，博士都要先做工资低并且没有保障的博士后(年薪3.6万至4.8万美元)之后才可能去公司或者做教授。多数中国学生都缺乏对生物学的了解才走上这条路
的，即使是美国优秀学生，从博士毕业到教授一般都要努力很多年。有些顶级生物专业的博士毕业后，能进知名咨询公司，如麦肯锡，BCG，但是这绝对只限于麻
省理工，哈佛等少数几所大学。

6、计算机与电信
科学计算机科学领域很多，多数就业形势都不错，如软件，数据库，网络，硬件，芯片，无线通信等，即使是很理论的行业，就业前景都不差。IT业是成熟的规模
行业，可吸收大量优质人才。一般博士毕业多数去大公司做科研，年薪10万美元。硕士毕业做开发人员的多些，年薪5万至8万美元。IT业仍然是美国理工的主
流，麻省理工本科与研究生里，50% 是ECE专业，电子与计算机工程。

7、
工程学习工程的学生，多数在美国可以找到合适的工作。其中，生物医学工程，电信/计算机工程，工业与制造工程，机械工程，化工，石油比较好就业，而土木，
材料，核能，航天等比较难就业。美国基础建设项目很少了，而核能，航天等专业有国籍的限制，这些专业的学生多数靠自己的工程与计算机背景找到了与IT相关
的工作。美国顶级的工科学生有时候不一定会做工程，而是选择做工业投资，风险投资，发明投资之类的，收入会高很多, 可达15万美元以上。

8、
医学国内学医学的学生很幸运，美国没有本科学医学的，国内的医学本科他们承认为医学博士。而中国临床医学学生多数来美国读生物科学，边读博士边考美国的医
学从业考试，考过了就可以从实习医生做起，最终如果能成功，医生的收入是非常高的。顶级的外科医生年薪可达50万至80万美元,
普通的内科医生约15万美元。

9、教育学非常难找工作的行业。

10、心理学学生主要走学术道路，要成为心理专家，需要非常高的语言能力。

11、经济学就业前景不错，好学校??中国社会比较尊重经济学家，回国做教授工资比别的专业高一大截，甚至几倍。

12、社会学就业前景尚可，学生要注意积累统计功底，如果不能去咨询公司也能靠统计学找到工作。

13、政治学就业前景在美国不好。顶级学校毕业的回国倒是很好，可进政策研究所，高校，政府机构，NGO(非政府机构，如欧洲美国的某基金会)，还有去联合国驻中国机构的。

14、历史、人文等工作机会很少，美国人本科学历史与人文的，研究生很多都读法律，经济去了。中国学生读完博士的基本都要走学术道路，而文科的科研经费少，教职也少得多。

15、环境科学工作不好找。一些学大气物理的可去风力发电公司，一些做环境毒理的可以去石油公司。但是环境科学还是比生物学前景好些。

16、
法学中国人即使美国法学院毕业，英文能好到上法庭的也并不多。经济学金融学功底好的可选择做公司并购，IPO等业务，收入会很高，超过20万美元。很多人
选择做移民律师，给中国人办签证与绿卡，收入会少些，10万美元左右。而能应用自己理工知识做专利律师，是个不错的选择。

17、会计学很好找工作，但是企业里的工资不高，约4万至5万，做审计的工作稍微高些。

18、MBA与商学院中国学生毕业多数去金融公司与咨询公司，美国学生因为英文的表达能力好，很多选择去公司做管理。读商学院一定要读好学校才不会浪费学费和时间。

总
之，对于在美国就业来说，中国学生适合于学技术含量高的，数理成分高的专业，而各行业的销售与市场方面，美国人有很大语言与人脉优势。如果是回国创业或者
工作，那又是另一回事情了。在美国，不同专业的收入差异是巨大的。而转专业对于家庭财产有限的中国留学生是一个艰苦卓绝，需要忍受巨大压力与长期寂寞的历
程，而一味跟风热门专业风险也是巨大的，有时候坚守自己的初衷也是一种勇气。

人民币升值国内的薪水

这些日子人民币升值真是厉害。我在想照这个趋势下去，是不是外资企业的薪资水品要调整了。刚才看明烨兄标题党写着据说降薪30%, 这个还真不好说。
